Japan tech unicorn Mercari has landed in Europe and is calling all developers, hackers, designers and anyone interested to help solve challenges facing the Sharing Economy. Participants that take the Mercari Euro Hack will not only get the chance to win incredible cash prizes, but also all-expenses-paid trips to Japan.
The Challenge: Solve some common problems

Sharing Economy
Definition: "Peer to Peer (P2P) economic model of acquiring or sharing goods and services, usually facilitated by a community-based online platform". We believe the Sharing Economy is about designing experience, rather than just products.
The Hackathon process
Step 1. Apply here! (~5 minutes)
Step 2. Take the ChallengeRocket code challenge! (~75 minutes)
Step 3. Wait for your invitation to the Onsite Hackathon! (notice~2 weeks)
Prizes & Incentives
For all shortlisted participants up to €400 (if traveling from outside Poland) and €200 (if traveling within Poland) travel and accommodation reimbursment!
- First place €4.000 Cash prize
- Second place €2.500 Cash prize
- Third place €1.000 Cash prize
- For 1st, 2nd and 3rd places Winners Trip to Japan to visit the Mercari head office! Winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will receive all expense paid trips to Tokyo, Japan.
- For shortlisted participants up to €400 Travel and hotel reimbursement. Free food and drinks during onsite Hackathon
How to participate?
Check Terms and join the Hackathon today!
- Create your ChallengeRocket account, register to the Mercari Euro Hack 2018, and fill out the application form (deadline: Oct 4, 2018)
- If you are a team leader or an individual without a team, solve the code challenge on ChallengeRocket's platform (dates: Sep 1- Oct 4, 2018) - Phase I
- If you end up among participants with the highest score you will be informed via e-mail about qualifying for the 24h onsite Hackathon in Warsaw (Oct 20-21, 2018) - Phase II
- During the onsite Hackathon you will solve the sharing economy's most difficult problems! (Oct 20-21, 2018)
- If your project happens to win 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place, you or your whole team will be awarded with cash prizes and all-expenses-paid trips to Japan!
Requirements
All participants must register individually. Team leaders or an individual without a team needs to complete the coding challenge between Sep 1-Oct 4. Shortlisted teams/individual will be invited to the onsite Hackathon in Warsaw. The Organizer guarantees travel and accommodation reimbursement for all shortlisted entrants arriving from outside of Warsaw.
Answers and presented projects must be original, own work of the entrants. Any case of plagiarism may result in disqualification of the participant from the Hackathon. Answers and projects must be presented in English. The event will be conducted in English. Projects must comply with all content guidelines applicable to the Terms and Conditions.
